In the new AMV there is a simplified approach to the measuring of pupils’ progress in RE. This guidance helps teachers move beyond the ‘levels’ or ‘can-do’ structure of the previous assessment model. Here, there is a new focus on assessing rich, deep learning and understanding of key knowledge in RE, as well as skills.
The standards to be expected in AMV RE are now expressed in terms of ‘Learning Outcomes’ for each key stage, from the Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 3. They are to be found in a separate document in this section and also in the Programmes of Study (in the Syllabus section of this website) where the relevant statements have been selected to fit each unit in turn. At Key Stage 4 and Post-16, national qualifications continue to be the main means of assessing attainment in religious education.
